Some correct and many false rumors have surrounded the pricing of this car.
Prices have increased with a change from a 4 speed gearbox to a six speed sequential gearbox, replacement of the originally proposed engine with the new 2.3-Liter engine, general reliability and performance enhancements and a large increase in the conversion rate for the pound since discussions first started.
Final prices will be held for a minimum one-year period.
CONVERSION RATE
Prices based on a conversion rate of ₤1.00 = $1.60. Final payment will be adjusted to the actual dollar to pound rate cost to Enterprises which is slightly higher then the official conversion rate. A $0.01 to the pound fluctuation equals approximately a $125.00 increase/decrease in the car price.
PURCHASE CONTRACT
The purchase contract allows a 30-day period for cancellation with no penalty and all monies returned. This clause is included so the purchaser can reconsider if late breaking specs on the car are not to his or her liking. Enterprises reserves the right to remove this clause on future purchase contracts after all specs are completed.
FREIGHT
Freight rates are estimated to be $1,200 to $1,700 by sea and land, depending on the delivery zip code. Airfreight of the chassis is available to the purchaser. Pick-ups at Enterprises can be arranged but sales tax may be a consideration. Airfreight can be arranged.
CREDIT CARDS
To maintain the lowest cost possible, there is no money built into the car price for the absorption of credit card fees. A credit card number will be accepted as down payment at the signing of the purchase contract in order to hold a delivery spot. A replacement check must arrive at Enterprises within ten working days for the delivery spot to be maintained.
DELIVERY
First production deliveries are projected to be in February 2003. The production rate is ten plus cars per month. Some assembly will be required, as the engine will not be mounted to the chassis.
PARTS
Part pricing is still under review. Final pricing is expected to be very competitive. Pricing on a new replacement engine is expected to be under $6,550.00 for a complete engine including all accessories, dyno tested, sealed and ready to install.
WHY THESE CARS NOW
Driver skill and cost containment is the focal point. An entry-level car with minimal adjustments, sealed engines, set horsepower, and equal traction along with a truly high-tech presentation. Controlled through standardized components, drive train, adjustments and tires. The car is designed for the up-and-coming new driver as well as the current member looking for low budget competition. The level playing field of controlled competition allows the driver to showcase his or her true ability in a “drivers class” while maintaining costs. Implementation of this program has the potential of being even more successful for the SCCA racing members then the highly successful Spec Racer program. SCCA, Inc. and both of its operating subsidiaries plan to continue full support of the Spec Racer class and automobiles indefinitely. There is no plan or proposal currently under consideration by the SCCA Board to vary support of the current Spec Racer program in any way whatsoever or to disenfranchise any existing classes through the introduction of this new car.
VAN DIEMEN / ENTERPRISES VENTURE
Enterprises and Van Diemen are very pleased to have joined forces. With chassis production by Van Diemen and engine, distribution, compliance and stewardship by Enterprises, this is a winning combination. This is a 20-year partnership between Van Diemen and Enterprises. The 2.3-Liter is one of the newest engines available with a production life of 14 plus years. The car is state-of-the-art with solid cost controls. The car will run and be supported by SCCA and Enterprises for many years to come.
SUBSIDIES
There are no subsidies involved in the pricing of these cars. All involved are making a small profit. As a result, there is no subsidy to disappear in the future at the expense of the participants. The SCCA Club has no financial interest or investment in the project.
PRO SERIES
SCCA Pro Racing is in the process of developing a pro series for 2003. Current projections are for a 10 race series in both the East and the West. A combined event will be held at the end of the season to determine an overall winner. Schedules and details are expected to be released in November.
CLASS
The Competition Board has suggested the formula car run in Formula Atlantic and the Sports Racer run in C Sports Racer. Both placements are subject to the 30-day comment period by the membership. Both cars must follow GCR requirements before the Competition Board will consider assigning either car it’s own class.
COLOR
Body panels come in six colors: white; blue; red; yellow; green; and black. Color may be specified at the time of chassis order. Enterprises, in the interest of cost containment, will only inventory white replacement panels. Colored replacement orders may be placed, but will require an extended delivery time.
WHICH VERSION TO PURCHASE
The difference in cost between the two cars is directly related to the bodies. The formula body is less expensive then the sports racer body. It is estimated that approximately three hours will be required to switch bodies on the cars. If the purchaser expects to participate in both the Formula and Sports Racer classes then it is suggested that the sports racer version be purchased with a spare formula body for overall cost savings.
